Rich Allen is a certified dog trainer in Rochester, New York, with over 27 years of experience. Initially, he focused on protection sports and obedience, using various training methods, including physical or fear-based techniques. However, he discovered these approaches often caused more harm than good. Over time, he shifted to positive dog training, emphasizing reward-based methods that build trust and confidence. Rich earned his Certified Animal Behaviorist (CAB) certificate through International Canine Behaviorists and his Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. He is also a professional member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), demonstrating his dedication to ethical and effective dog training in Rochester.
Learning new methods for reactive and fearful dogs has greatly improved behavior outcomes. Additionally, ongoing education keeps him updated with the latest training techniques. Consequently, he continues to grow as a Rochester dog trainer skilled in multiple animal training fields. As the owner and lead trainer at Wags to Rich’s Canine Behavior Training, he earned the 2022 People’s Choice Award for Best Pet Training. Words can't express how amazing Wags to Richs is.. Carol, Rich and all the staff are amazing.. they go above and beyond for my best friend Sadie.. they treat her like they're own animal.. Wags does birthday party's for her.. dresses her up in cool outfits for the holidays.. the facility is super clean.. Sadie basically grew up here and I wouldn't bring her anywhere else..
